Fayetteville Friday-Monday

 

We've visited with Lulu, GG Richard, GG Joan and Uncle Joel; wished for Aunt Sally, Uncle Carlos and Joaquin; eaten at Monte Ne Inn; gone bowling; gone on a Coke date to Penguin Ed's; taken family pictures...still have more days of fun ahead.

Fayetteville Sunday-Thursday

 

We've had a great time! We've hiked, sewed, laughed, visited with family and a couple of friends, been to the Farmer's Market, chopped down limbs, shopped, hung out, eaten lots of cookies, walked really far...lots of fun left!

Our drive to Fayetteville was uneventful, but LOOOOOOOOONG! Having a baby that has to eat every few hours, and a boy that has just potty trained did NOT make for a quick trip. It took us twelve hours. However, we made it safely and I was so thankful that Brax was with me and that I wasn't doing it alone. (It might have taken 20 hours!)

6 months

 

 

 

Mae is 6 months. I can't believe how fast it's gone!!! She's babbling constantly, rolling over and over and over! She eating solid foods, although does not like cereal very much. She most definitely NOT sleeping through the night, still waking up once or twice a night (going to bed at 6:30 and getting up sometime in the morning.) She's SO cheerful and loves to talk to people!

Old Friends

 

 

We had a wonderful, random dinner on Friday night. Our friends Amy and Erin came to visit. We know them from a variety of different places, but the three of us go WAY back to AWANA starting (for me) in 2nd grade when I moved to Arkansas. It was a delighful evening and Brax and I definitely had a great time!

Where We've Lived

 

 

 

I LOVE doing projects. Crafts relax me and help me to unwind. Plus I get super excited thinking about them. This is a project I've been thinking about since we lived in Georgia. This window used to hang in Thomas's room with verses painted on it. Well, when we moved here we painted his room blue, and so couldn't use it. I decided to re purpose it as a frame for pictures of the quintessential (or "Big Q") landmark in each of the four towns in which Brax and I have lived together. These landmarks are:

Big Ben in London-London arguably has lots of landmarks, but since this is where we got engaged, Big Ben it is for us. And though we didn't live in London after we were married, we did live in the same house there for three months, so I included it. It's my frame...

Samford University's Library and Belltower in Birmingham-Really Birmingham's quintessential landmark is Vulcan, but we were at Samford for most of our time in Birmingham. Plus, Brax's grandfather hung the bells in the bell tower when it was built, so again, it's our "Big Q" for Birmingham.

The Courthouse in Newnan-The square the and the surrounding historical neighborhoods were definitely my favorite thing about Newnan. Only fitting the that courthouse would be the landmark.

The Space Shuttle (at the Space and Rocket center) in Huntsville-Although this isn't a beautiful building, Huntsville is the Rocket City. Maybe if we move away, by that time we will have a different landmark, but for now, this is it.

I thought about painting it black, but am so glad I decided on red! Yea for spray paint, a printer and photo paper, scotch tape and rub-on letters!

Yesterday Jared and Bobi Ann went to Six Flags over Georgia, and Bobi Ann called to say that if we wanted to babysit Billie for the day we could. We went and picked her up and she and Thomas had about an hour of fun. Then they decided that they would rather not get along, so we ended up taking Billie back home. But, I got some cute pictures out of it!

The other day I explained to Thomas that we had had our phones disconnected, and are only using cell phones now. The one in the kitchen is still up, basically because it's really cute. After studying it for awhile Thomas said, "I want to call the ambulance so they can come fix our phones."

"It was pretty tricky, but I figured it out."

Thomas: Mom, there's a worm in that tree. Can you get it down?
Kim: No, I think that's too high up for me.
Thomas: Daddy can get it.
Kim: I think it might even be too high up for Dad to reach.
Thomas: Don’t give up, Mom!

As Thomas got up from his nap one day.
Thomas: Can we go outside?
Kim: Not right now. I have brownies in the oven.
Thomas: For me?!
Kim: No, they're for our small group tonight.
Thomas: OK.
We went downstairs and he looked in the oven and then looked at me.
Thomas: But, they sure do smell good.

At the doctor's office, to the doctor:
Thomas: Where did you get that beautiful shirt?

We told Thomas that while we were gone to small group he needed to obey Mimi and Papa and we would be asking when we got home how he did. This conversation was the next morning when Thomas got up.

Thomas: Did Mimi me tell you I obeyed?
Kim: Yes, you did a great job. Thank you!
Thomas: I kicked Mimi.
Kim: (lost for words!)

Homestead Hollow

Last weekend we drove down to Springville, AL and went to Homestead Hollow, or as Thomas has been calling it, "Hollow Lollow." Although weather.com said that it should be sunny in the morning, it POURED the first thirty minutes that we were there. We all got thoroughly soaked, and then had fun walking around and looking at the crafts. Thomas got to ride a pony and got a homemade pop gun. Mae did great and basically didn't make a peep the whole time, but just enjoyed riding around in her stroller and watching all the people. (I didn't take my camera in b/c of the rain, and so these are all from my phone.)

Tummy Time!

 

Mae has officially started to sleep on her stomach. Of course we still put her down on her back, but she immediately turns over. Even though I feel a little bit nervous I've just been praying that the Lord will help me not worry. It's going great, and she's taking GREAT naps-and sleeping well at night too, for the most part! I had to wake her up the other day at 5:00pm so she'd go to sleep at her normal time, and this is the face that I came in to. Had to take a picture!

Big Boy!

We are proud to announce that Thomas is potty trained. We waited a long time to do it and finally a couple of weeks ago we announced "no more diapers!" Thomas got excited about it, and I'm happy to say only had three accidents through the course of the training. We still don't have night time figured out, but I'll take the day!! Here's a picture of him (taken on my phone) watching the garbage man wearing, of course, his big boy underwear.

Mae has recently started eating from a spoon again. We took a little break because she was really uninterested. She still doesn't love cereal, but she does really like applesauce, sweet potatoes and green beans. She likes to suck her thumb in between bites, and it made me think of Thomas. Do you think they're brother and sister? ;)

It's Gonna Blow!

 

 

 

 

The other day Thomas and I made a volcano at home. I had seen this idea here and even though we'll probably do it again for the letter "V" I was too excited to wait that long. Plus, we've had SO much rainy weather I was looking for some things we could do inside! We had to use more baking soda and vinegar, I think because our jar was pretty big, but it worked great and Thomas loved it. He has asked to do it several times since!
