First Teeth Cleaning

In the middle of all the candy gathering that we've obviously been doing, we took Thomas to get his teeth cleaned for the first time. He had the BEST TIME EVER! He was great in the chair and then got a ball. Please note that in the 2nd picture, Thomas is hitting a field goal. (Pretty average first trip to get your teeth cleaned!)

Trick-Or-Treat

We took the doctor and chicken and headed over to one of the neighborhoods where a lot of our friends live. It was great trick-or-treating! Super nice people, and good candy. Both kids had a great time, and Cathy even took a picture of our family! (Can you tell I had a Sunday nap and slept off all my makeup?!)

Fall Festivities

Harvest Hey Day at Church
It was so hot and humid that day that I went to Wal-Mart and bought Mae the only costume I could find in her size, because the fuzzy chicken costume was just too hot! Thomas had the best time ever! Brax manned one of the inflatables, and I really could only keep up with one kid, so Thomas got to run free. We even ran into Sonny and Cher!

Imagine taking a bunch of 3, 4 and 5 year olds on a field trip to a farm on a day when the wind was blowing 25-35 miles an hour with 40 mile an hour gusts!! We had fun, but boy was it WINDY!! Mae LOVED the huge slide!

On this day...

...eight years ago.

This very young boy and girl, got engaged in the shadow of St. Stephen's Tower. It was 5:59 when she said yes, and immediately after, the famous bell Big Ben struck the six o'clock hour.

They then went and had dinner with these fabulous people! (This picture is actually from Salzburg).

The way that we remember that October 24 is our engagement anniversary is that it also happened to be the 21st birthday of this best friend.

Tubes: Round 2

About a month and a half ago, I took Thomas in to the doctor for a cough. Mae had also been fussy, so I had Doctor C check her out while I was there. She had an ear infection, and one of her tubes had fallen out (which, for those of you who don't know, is very normal!). We treated it with antibiotics, and as soon as those were finished, she promptly got another ear infection. We treated it and Doctor C sent us to the ENT who said, "Let's wait." (Just for the record, as a parent, being caught between a pediatrician and a specialist is frustrating!!!) We waited, and a week later, when we were in Arkansas for fall break, Mae got another ear infection. I called the ENT (on 540, driving back to Alabama) and they scheduled us for tubes.

We went in the morning, thankfully at 7 since Mae couldn't eat or drink before, and had the procedure done. Mae was WONDERFUL, and didn't even cry when they wheeled her away on the little rolling bed.

We're so thankful for tubes, and how well they work for Mae!

Painting Pumpkins

Yesterday I let the kids each pick out a pumpkin at Wal-Mart. Today while Brax was gone to Tuscaloosa we painted them. Thomas wanted to paint a "scary face" on his. He basically just splattered paint all over it. Mae painted an area about 1/4 of the pumpkin. I turned it so she could paint the other side and she freaked out, so apparently she had some artistic plans...
While the kids were painting, I painted my own pumpkins. I wish that I wouldn't have used such a thick brush, but it was fun for my first try! And you'll be able to see them really well from the road. :)

 

 

 

 

Fall

Fall is far and away my favorite season. I love the holidays, I love the weather, and I love the decorations. Although I don't do a ton of decorating at this stage in my life, I have finally added a few fall touches this week!

 

Fun Friday

On Friday a firetruck and some firemen came to Thomas's school. Even though he doesn't go to school on Fridays we were able to take the kids and go sit in the firetruck. Afterwards, we went to Bridge Street and met Brax at Tommy's Pizza for lunch-and the kids got to ride the carousel. We are all LOVING the cooler weather!

Funnies

I haven't done funnies in awhile, not because Thomas isn't saying funny things, but because much of what's funny is now in inflection, rather than in actual words. But, here are a few.

Thomas, standing on the scale: How much do I cost, Daddy?

Explaining to Thomas that Mr. George's dad was in the hospital.
Thomas: Why?
Kim: Well, he's sick.
Thomas: Did he eat something he shouldn't have?
Kim: I don't think so.
Thomas: Did he eat a rock?

As I was standing in the entryway with my hands more than completely full, Thomas came up with his hands completely empty and said: Mom, could you scratch my finger?

Thomas, as a McDonald's wrapper fell out of the car: Mom, I need to pick that up!
Kim(trying to lug Mae into yet another truck stop for a bathroom break on a ten hour road trip alone with two children): Just leave it!
Thomas:Mom, I glittered!

And a Mae funny. Mae is repeating almost all the words we say now. Her current favorite is "Gokka!" which is her version of "Gotcha." She says it after you explain anything to her.

Lyon Family Farms 2010

Today we made our yearly pilgrimage to Lyon Family Farms, just across the Tennessee state line. We LOVE going there, and it's literally one of my favorite days of the year. (We put this date on our calendar back in August.) Today was a little hotter than I would have picked, but it was still a blast!! I always take about 90,000 pictures while we're there.

Florida vs. Alabama

While Thomas and Mae were living it up with Pops and Gram, Brax and I went to Tuscaloosa with PaPa and MiMi to watch Alabama WALLUP Florida! We had such a fun day! We ate really really good Bar-B-Q at Archibalds for lunch. We walked around the Quad. We visited the Houndstooth on the strip, and even watched Coach Saban and the team arrive during the Walk of Champions. It was a beautiful fall day! The game was AWESOME!! It was so fun and loud. We had a great time. And even though we rolled into our driveway at 3:15am, Sunday morning, it was definitely worth it!

Arkansas-October 2010

Last Friday, Gram, Aunt Sally and Joaquin met the kids and me in Memphis. Gram, Aunt Sally, Joaquin, Thomas and Mae traveled on to Arkansas. I went back to Alabama so that Brax and I could go to the Florida/Alabama football game in Tuscaloosa.
Thomas and Mae had a great weekend with Gram and Pops. They got to see motorcycles (Bikes, Blues and BBQ was going on), get donuts, feed the deer, color lots, play croquet and go on several different outings. I sadly have no pictures of Pops from the weekend.
On Monday I drove to Arkansas (ALONE!!!) and spent the week with Gram and the kids since it was Thomas's fall break. We got to see Aunt Sally and Joaquin alot! We got to visit Aunt Becky at her house. Ginny, Hazel and Anders came over to play for a little while. And I got some good quality time with Gram! It was a great week, as always, and I even got to visit with dad for one weekend. I'm so thankful that Brax doesn't mind me being gone, even if he can't always go with us!
